About Me

Hi, I’m Harriet Young. I’m a food writer, lifelong home cook and enthusiastic forager.

This corner of the internet is where my love of real food meets the magic of what’s already growing around us. Welcome to my foraging kitchen, where wild ingredients and everyday cooking come together in delicious, down-to-earth recipes anyone can try.

How It All Started

My journey into foraging didn’t begin with a survival course or a remote cabin in the woods. It began with curiosity – a walk in the countryside, a handful of blackberries and the growing realisation that nature offers far more than we give it credit for.

As someone who’s been cooking for over a decade – and writing about food just as long – I’ve always been drawn to the kind of meals that are big on flavour and light on fuss. This blog is a natural extension of that philosophy: rooted in simplicity and a desire to make food feel exciting again.

Why Forage?

We live in a world where food can feel over-processed, overpriced and disconnected from nature. Foraging brings us back – not just to the source, but to a slower, more mindful way of eating.

I forage not to be fancy, but to be free – free from unnecessary food waste, free from the idea that good meals need to cost a fortune and free to explore the incredible, edible world around us.

You don’t need to be a survivalist to enjoy this blog. You don’t need acres of countryside or a botany degree. What you do need is a little curiosity, a willingness to learn, and maybe a good pair of walking shoes.

Every recipe here is built for real life – tested in my own kitchen, often with my daughter helping (or at least taste-testing), and always designed to be simple, satisfying and flexible.

  • Published author and storyteller – which means I don’t just share recipes, I tell the story behind them
  • Masterchef auditionee (a proud moment, even if I didn’t win a trophy)
  • Creator of practical, no-nonsense recipes that work for busy people and everyday kitchens

I’m not a botanist or chef, just someone with a deep respect for food and nature. I’ll always encourage safe, sustainable foraging and I’ll never pretend I know it all. This blog is as much about learning as it is about sharing.
